Summary: Saika and Suzaku is reunited with their mother years after her exile into solitude.
Saika looked over the applications for the current exam participants. The exams in Amulet placed psychics in their necessary field. It displayed their strong attributes, their weaknesses, and if someone had any version of Sight. Saika swallowed the lump in her throat at the word. It bought back too many memories.
Saika placed another application aside. She reached for another one when a frantic knock landed on her door.
“Come in.”
“SAIKA! SAIKA!” Suzaku burst inside the office and made a bee line to an alarmed Saika.
“Suzaku, what--”
“You know how Keiji has been pestering you about marrying him and asking for psychics with the Sight.”
“Yes I know. I--” Saika frowned in confusion at the commotion outside the office. “Suzaku, what’s going on?”
“That’s why I came here to find you. Mom’s back!”
“What!” Saika ran out of the office with Suzaku close behind. “I thought she wasn’t coming back!”
“I thought so too, but Artemis called me to let me know. I thought he had finally lost it, but when I looked out the window, I saw mom walking down the path. Can you believe it? She’s back!” Suzaku exclaimed as he jumped down the flight of stairs leading to the foyer. Saika slid down the railing. “I can’t believe it! I haven’t seen mom since the end of the war. She’s back! She’s back!”
Their robes billowed behind them as they ran through the foyer and out the front door. The last time Saika saw Karou she was a child. Karou disappeared into exile after the end of the war. It hurt, but Saika knew she needed the break. Saika and Suzaku received many letters, gifts, and tips from Karou throughout the years, but to see her again felt unreal.
“Where is she Suzaku?” Saika looked around the courtyard of the building.
“There!” Suzaku pointed to the fountain in the middle of the courtyard.
Saika looked over and gasped as tears filled her eyes. In front of the fountain in a light blue dress, a matching ribbon in her hair, and a fan in her hand was Karou.
“M-Mom,” Saika whispered.
Karou turned around with a smile. “My, look at how much you two have grown.”
Tears rolled down Saika’s cheeks as she ran over with Suzaku. She wrapped her arms around Karou’s waist and cried in her dress. There would be time to ask questions about Karou’s whereabouts later. They were a family again and Saika didn’t want the feeling to end anytime soon.
